Springs are loaded into a dial plate, either by hand or automatically. The aluminum dial plate contains hardened bushings, and is positioned under the die head by an index table.

The indexer positions the holes under the die head, which has spring-loaded plungers. After the springs are positioned under the die head, the driven die head circles down to compress springs, either to solid height, or to a preset height.

This arrangement can compress each spring three times, at a production rate of 80 parts per minute. The plungers will automatically center the springs and enter into the bushing during spring compression. The beginning height of the ram is adjustable via a turnbuckle to accommodate various beginning free-length heights.
